We seek to shed light on the underreported and overlooked global stories that matter to you.
The Lookout Report seeks to provide a nuanced analysis of topics that are overlooked due to their perceived ‘irrelevance’, such as elections and major policy shifts in Latin America, and conflict and the retreat of democracy in the Sahel or Sub-Saharan Africa. These issues have broader implications for the future of trade, global security, and international order and deserve consideration and engagement.
The Lookout Report was founded by KCL Postgraduate students Joshua Schlicht and Ben Kwasnik in October 2023. As students of International Political Economy, they are passionate about global political affairs and want to share their analysis of political and current affairs from around the world.
About the Authors:
Joshua Schlicht:
Joshua is an American postgraduate student with experience in government, fundraising, and international relations. Having graduated from University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in IR, he decided to further cultivate his economic knowledge by pursuing a Masters in International Political Economy from King’s College London. He is especially interested in American foreign policy, conflict and areas of ideological convergence in the age of populism. He hopes to critique and analyze interventions in the Global South which have been shaped by contemporary neoliberal assumptions, and to provide a unique analysis seldom found in popular publications.
Ben Kwasnik:
Ben is a trilingual postgraduate student in International Political Economy at King’s College London. He graduated with a Law degree from Newcastle University, and then proceeded to travel Latin America while teaching English online. He travelled the entire continent, spending the most time in Mexico and Argentina, where he picked up Spanish, and took a deep interest in the continent’s political and economic affairs. Outside of Latin America, Ben’s interests include Sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Europe, and geopolitics.
